Shawn Jones

Shawn has 30 years of youth coaching experience including middle school, high school junior varisty and varisty levels as well as coaching for the Junior Olympic Volleyball team. Shawn earned his B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Akron and his Masters in Instructional Technology from Kent State University. The past six years, Shawn has taught Communications and Technology Classes at Stanton Middle School in Kent, OH. and previously taught three years of Social Studies at Stanton and ten years teaching all subjects at Walls Elementary School, also in Kent.

Coach Howell-Singleton

Tabitha Howell-Singleton

Tabitha is a former high school volleyball, all Ohio-player and graduate of Warrensville Heights High School where she played left and middle hitter for 3 years. After high school, she played for Coach Mina Moore at Case Western Reserve. After starting a family, she volunteered as a coach and intramural player in northern Cincinnati. After returning to Cleveland, OH, she was an assistant coach for a recreation team.

"I still love basketball and volleyball. I have three daughters and a son that are involved in sports," said Howell-Singleton. "My kids are 26, 25, 17, 14, 10 and 9. I enjoy watching them play but also love coaching and helping young athletes excel."

Coach Edwards

Jane Edwards

A graduate of Solon High School, Jane was a three-year starter in volleyball and softball. She continued playing intramural volleyball at Bowling Green State University (two years) and played in a summer beach volleyball league before starting her family. She is a mom to one son and two daughters and is actively involved with their teams as a volunteer coach, booster and board member, and team mom. She was also privileged to serve on the Auburn-Bainbridge Recreation Board as a board member for four years to assist in overseeing recreational opportunities for area youth.

"Athletics has always been an important aspect of my life, whether through playing, coaching team sports or independently running half and full marathons," said Edwards. "Working with children of all ages is a passion of mine. Having worked for Solon Recreation as a program director and now in my ninth year of teaching at Bainbridge Christian Preschool, I thoroughly enjoy watching children succeed in all aspects of their life."

KRISTY AIKEN

Kristy played volleyball and basketball for Mars Area High School in Pennsylvania. She was a volleyball setter and captain for three years. After high school, she participated in intramural leagues at Houghton College and graduated with a Science degree with a physical therapy minor. 

After starting a family, she coached one season for King of The Court, a Pennsylvania J.O. U13 team. After moving to Ohio with her husband and raising three kids, she coached middle school volleyball and basketball at Valley Christian Academy. 

Kristy recently finished her tenth volleyball season at VCA with the best record in school history at 11-2.

She also works at VCA as an educational assistant in the 2nd grade and middle school part time.

"I love seeing players learn to love a sport and excel with their teammates both on and off the court. Volleyball has been a part of my life for a long time and I’m excited to get back into the J.O. arena."

LISA BALLARD

Lisa has been playing volleyball since the 80s where she served as a setter for four years at Lutheran High School West and has kept a love and passion for the game every since. She currently plays on two sand volleyball teams and attends a women’s volleyball program at her church weekly.

Lisa trains VB player skills at Christ Community Chapel (Hudson) volleyball camps throughout the year. She has coached Middle school Cheer at Valley Christian Academy for three years.

She is a mom to a son and daughter and is actively involved in their sports teams and schools where she volunteers and acts in varied support roles. She holds a Bachelor of Science in communications from Bowling Green State University. Prior to having her kids she served as General Manger for several major retail chains and also worked as an executive recruiter.

Brittany Ortiz

Brittany has coached for Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron as well as the KYV Club Volleyball and FSA Volleyball Club in Texas. She played volleyball for Hoban High, Theil College in Greenville, PA and with the North Texas Regional Club Volleyball.

Brittany is a mom to five kids, ages 2-14. She relocated back to her hometown of Akron in October of 2020 after living in Houston, TX for 12 years. She has a passion for coaching and teaching young girls to apply decision making not only in the game of volleyball but in everyday life.

Breanna Nero

Breanna played volleyball from middle school through high school, and then recreationally in college. She is a graduate of Pensacola Christian College with a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management. Currently, she is a teacher at Heritage Christian School in Brooklyn, Ohio, and has recently ended her first season coaching 8th grade volleyball at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy.

"I have a passion for coaching sports and teaching youth and to grow athletes' skills, sportsmanship, and leadership through the sports they play."
